The sys-kernel category contains kernel source ebuilds and kernel-related tools.
Several of the ebuilds in the sys-kernel category are maintained by the Funtoo Linux core team. These include the following ebuilds, which all are kernels that support OpenVZ Container technology:
- openvz-sources
- This is a forked version of the upstream Gentoo openvz-sources tree, with significant changes in some ebuilds. This is a legacy tree and is gradually being replaced with new OpenVZ kernel ebuilds:
- rhel5-openvz-sources
- This is a new ebuild for RHEL5 stable OpenVZ kernel sources, which is the recommended kernel for production deployments of OpenVZ using Funtoo Linux. You will find the latest production kernel sources here. Included in this kernel are a few patches - one to have the Makefile use gcc-4.1.2 for building without having to use gcc-config, as well as a patch to add uvesafb support and fix a network bridge issue where adding or removing a slave from the bridge will change its MAC address, likely interrupting veth or host traffic due to a stale ARP cache. The patch fixes this issue.
- rhel5-openvz-binaries
- This is a new ebuild that builds a binary kernel using genkernel based on the correspondingly-versioned rhel5-openvz-sources source code.
- rhel6-openvz-sources
- This is a new ebuild for the RHEL6 TESTING OpenVZ kernel sources. This ebuild will probably eventually be renamed to rhel6-test-openvz-sources when a RHEL6 stable kernel source tree becomes availabl.e
