How about a eselect for zfs /root?

Revision as of 23:32, 11 February 2013

If you create a separate /var, and you have multiple /roots, like a rescue or clean install zfs snapshot, your /var will have your portage database and will show files installed in other /roots but not necessarily your current root.

I guess what I am asking, as I'm migrating from a OpenIndianna install, is for a beadm style management of /root. I can snapshot a new root, but with a separate /var, it is system global, not /root specific.

I guess a snapshot of a new /root and a new /var at the same time is a workaround. But then you have to adjust the zfs mount points every time you change to a different /root, reflecting the new mount points of new snapshot /root and new snapshot /var.

Is there anyway to set zfs mount points at boot?

How about a eselect for zfs /root?
