Biography
Brant Gurganus is a recent graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a degree in computer science. Beyond computers and software development, Brant has interests in the the outdoors. He is an Eagle Scout, and he helps with his scout troop from time to time.
History using Linux
Brant Gurganus started in Linux in college. One of his college classmates pointed him initially toward Debian. However, Debian did not provide the support for his laptop's hardware, at least not in its stable form. Brant then went on to try Fedora. Fedora was just getting started and wasn't very polished. Its graphical tools also covered over the actual modification of configuration files which Brant wanted to learn. Next, Brant tried Linux from Scratch. Linux from Scratch was a very educational experience. However, it had one major drawback: there was no package management. At this point, Brant was pointed to the Gentoo Linux project.
