Our organizational structure consists of BDFL and a small number of support staff, as well as members of our user community who are involved in improving Funtoo Linux. Developement efforts are driven by the BDFL as well as our users, and efforts are under way to implement various mechanisms to allow supporters of Funtoo Linux to chart the future direction of the project.

Funtoo Linux packages are installed from source code, automatically, thanks to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portage_(software) Portage ports system.] Funtoo Linux has its own distinct ports tree (repository of packages), which is based on Gentoo's. Every several hours, the Funtoo Linux Portage tree is updated using an automated merge process, to include the latest changes from Gentoo Linux, Funtoo Linux developers and contributors, as well as other independent developers.

=== Resources ===

Our community has a number of excellent resources for communication and collaboration:
Of course, sometimes we want to install a package but not add it to the <code>world</code> file. This is often done because you only want the package installed temporarily or because you know the package in question is a dependnecy of another package. If this behavior is desired, you call emerge like this:

Advanced users may be interested in the [[Emerge]] wiki page.

Funtoo is currently beta-testing a new centralized login infrastructure. You can create a new account by heading to our [http://auth.funtoo.org:9093/new beta funtoo account creation page]. A new account will work on the wiki, bug tracker and forums. See [[Funtoo Authentication FAQ]] for more information.

We want to give our supporters the opportunity to use Funtoo Linux online, as a virtual container. Financial supporters of the project are able to request a Funtoo Linux virtual container, based upon their level of support:

Introduzindo o Portage

(chroot) # emerge --sync
(chroot) # emerge -auDN @world

Of course, sometimes we want to install a package but not add it to the world file. This is often done because you only want the package installed temporarily or because you know the package in question is a dependnecy of another package. If this behavior is desired, you call emerge like this:

Now is actually a very good time to update the entire system and it can be a good idea to do so prior to first boot.

(chroot) # emerge --sync

Make sure you read any post emerge messages and follow their instructions. This is especially true if you have upgraded perl or python.
