To see avail kernels, I do this command
# "eix -# sys-kernel/"
for a brief listing

or for more detail
# eix -c sys-kernel/'

This command puts out lots of content to the screen, and it has color...
eix -A sys-kernel/

Let's say you want to look at sys-kernel/genkernel
# eix sys-kernel/genkernel/'
